10 Bold Design Elements to Steal for Your Own Space

10 Bold Design Elements to Steal for Your Own Space

Tired of a boring bedroom? We scoured the web for some of our favorite and fresh bold design element ideas for the bedroom. Borrow these for your own sleep space this weekend!

Pictured above: Bedding as colorful and patterned as a piece of art.

Let your bedding be the main statement your bedroom makes. Use lots of layers. Different textures. Pillows, comforters, colors and pattern. This gorgeous bed composition spotted on Home Style.

2. Geometry from floor to ceiling

Strong lines and repeating shapes create quite the look in a bedroom, ready to wake you up every morning. This bold pattern combination shot by Richard Powers for homelife.

3. Amazing DIY Wood Scalloped Wall

This sort of textured, repetitive, 3D DIY wood pattern for a wall is an incredible way to add a touch of personality to your own bedroom. Seen on Classy Clutter.

4. Pom-poms to your window or doorway curtains

Whether you've got curtains to close at night or have a divider or curtains helping you save space over a doorway, you can add pom-poms or tassels — seemingly small details — to create a surprisingly big impact. Not just for kids either, even though this room seen on A Lovely Lark is definitely a rad kid space.

5. Forget reclaimed wood. Go for an entire wood slab.

Though reclaimed wood headboards have been popular (and with good reason, as they are affordable and easy to DIY) if you've got the funds and the inclination, go for a big, dramatic wood slab as a headboard instead. It'll sure make a statement. This one seen on my paradissi.

6. Textured rugs on the wall

Use colorful, patterned or texture rugs on the wall as a headboard, or just use them as decoration. Wherever you use them, they'll be bold. This example from Jennifer Perkins.

7. Partial, bold paint jobs

We'll just never tired of using paint in big, intentional swatches — rather than an entire accent wall — to create interest and excitement in a bedroom (for kid or grown-up bedrooms). This one Photographed by Max Attenborough for Goodhomes magazine via Charlotte Love

8. Stencil pattern on a wall...that continues on a curtain

Stenciled patterns on walls aren't a new thing, neither is stenciling patterns on a curtain. But combine the two surfaces? It's a modern washing of pattern over a big area and it's powerful. This example seen on Sew a Fine Seam.

9. Black bedroom walls

Always classic. Always modern. Always dramatic and daring. This room spotted on The Brick House.

10. Fake a canopy with colorful sheer fabric

It's a bold move and brings a lot of energy into a space. It's also a great way to create a cozy feel where you snooze. This example seen on Chantilly.
